Steaming your face over a steam bath opens the pores and encourages the skin to sweat out any impurities. To enjoy a facial sauna, add some lemon juice and mint leaves to a bowl of hot water, cover your head with towel so that it prevents the steam from escaping. Close your eyes and steam your face for 5 minutes if you have oily skin, or for 2 minutes if you have normal or dry skin, breathing in the delicious scent of the lemons and mint. When you time's up, splash your face with cold water and pat it dry.
Other herbs with special properties can also be added to the steaming water:
- fennel - for remooving impurities
- rosemary - for deep cleansing
- lavender, rose petals, thyme, or camomile for gentle cleansing
- sage for oily skin,
- parsley for dry or sensitive skins
- dandelion leaves for older or sallow skins
